Another fall arrives, the season when girls shed their “hips don’t
lie” attitudes and wardrobes, to don the more tailored designs of
crisper weather. This season, we recommend pinning up the likes of
Katherine Hepburn on your wall. Or for a more feminine approach, order
Rosemary’s Baby on Netflix. We’ve got both looks on display in this
issue, and some in between, all inspired by fashions of the past.

Cover model Lena Jackson wears a Hepburn-inspired trend with chaplin
pants and suspenders, but takes it one step farther by sporting a
short, masculine hairstyle, a look we dare you to try. Claire
MacDonald takes us back to a time when Mia Farrow gave birth to Satan
with a floral print Empire dress and a vintage feathered bowler hat.

Cultural references aside, the key for this season for female shoppers
is to seek out simple styles and play with shapes. It’s not about
fitting the contours of your body, but experimenting with
well-tailored pieces that challenge the natural lines of the female
form. Patterns, new and vintage, are also in this fall. Just make sure
you stay away from wildly colorful ones in favor of those whose hues
compliment the season.

For men, we recommend following the lead of Lucas Wittman, our
strapping male model, who dons a more classic fall look with a sweater
vest and fedora. If you want to modernize this look, go with a
patterned shirt underneath your sweater or jacket, as opposed to solid
colors or stripes. Or, if you’re feeling more casual, go lumberjack
with a plaid shirt. The ladies will love the scent of alpine air that
you seem to emit.

You really can’t go wrong this fall as long as you abandon frills.
Keep things simple in color and clean-cut in their shape. Heaven
forbid you show up to class in ribbons, pearls or Juicy couture.
